The always inspiring Ameena Matthews delivered a passionate acceptance speech yesterday while being honored at the Black Girls Rock! award show on BET. Black Girls Rock! is a non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization that was established to promote the arts for young women of color as well as to encourage dialogue and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media. The organization honored exceptional women of color yesterday with a star studded award show broadcast and this year the Chicago native and The Interrupters star was given the community activist award. We are big fans of the work Matthews does that was spotlighted in The Interrupters so we send our congratulations her way on the award. Watch below as Matthews dishes out wisdom and truth straight up and gets the crowd cheering on their feet. Always a force to be reckoned with, we all need an inspirational guide like Ameena Matthews inspiring us in life.
