We’re kicking off the holiday season with a few festive stage productions.

A Christmas Carol

The Goodman’s annual production of A Christmas Carol practically kicks off the holiday theater season in Chicago. You won’t regret seeing Scrooge vet Larry Yando in his sixth year playing the lead. The show runs through Saturday, Nov. 16 through Saturday, Dec. 28.

Goodman Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn St., 312-443-3800 or online.

Hellcab

Profiles Theatre is bringing its acclaimed production of Hellcab back to the stage. The seasonally favorite show chronicles the bizarre encounters of a Chicago cabbie on Christmas Eve. The show runs through Sunday, Jan. 12.

Profiles Theatre, 4139 N. Broadway, 773-549-1815 or online.

Great Expectations

Another classic Dickens novel is getting the stage treatment over at Strawdog Theatre Company. About a young orphan being thrust into upper-crust society, the play provides nuggets of moral wisdom as only Dickens can. The show runs through Saturday, Dec. 14.

Strawdog Theatre Company, 3829 N. Broadway, 773-528-9696 or online.
