Pencil This In: The House Of Glunz 125th Anniversary Celebration

By Lisa White in Food on Nov 18, 2013 6:20PM

2013_11_18PTI.jpg To celebrate 125 years in business, The House of Glunz and Glunz Tavern are hosting a week of good food, wine, spirits and beer to honor Chicago’s oldest wine merchant. Since the late 19th century, the Glunz family have worked in alcohol distribution starting with Louis Glunz’s Schlitz Beer concession at the 1893 Columbian Exhibition. They re-opened the once shuttered tavern in 2012 and are celebrating starting tomorrow through Sunday.

Tomorrow kicks off with a $25 Italian prix fixe menu to celebrate the original neighborhood heritage around the restaurant’s Wells/Division location. It includes a classic menu of antipasto, pappardelle with long-simmered veal ragu and tiramisu. The rest of the week includes numerous wine tastings and throwback classic menu specials. Check out their Facebook page for full details.
