Schlafly Scouting Brewpub Locations In Chicago

Another brewery that breeds fierce brand loyalty as much from its lack of availability in Chicago as it does the quality of its beers is St. Louis-based Schlafly which is, strangely enough, found everywhere in Illinois except Chicago and the northern part of the state.
Our friends at Guys Drinking beer report that Schlafly co-owner Dan Kopman will be in Chicago Tuesday and Wednesday scouting locations for a possible brewpub in Chicago. Kopman is meeting with brewers and a brewery spokesman told GDB the brewery has been looking around the city for a possible brewpub location for nearly a year.
Kopman first mentioned the possibility of a Chicago brewpub in a live chat with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch earlier this year and for this trip will be centering on North Center, home to new breweries Spiteful, Half Acre, Begyle, Metropolitan and the upcoming Band of Bohemia. Just because Kopman is scouting locations doesn’t mean Schlafly is opening a brewpub soon. In the meantime there are plenty of beers available from other breweries to bide your time.
