Christkindlmarket Gives The Boot To Signature Boot Mug

One of the main reasons we head to Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza each year is the traditional ritual of drinking spiced wine out of a boot. Sadly our hopes and those of many others are dashed this year after Christkindlmarket unveiled the mug design for the market this year. The 2013 Christkindlmarket mug is a taller, thinner stein shape and outrage has erupted on the market's Facebook page over the changes. A chorus of "where is das boot?" is popping up all over as angry Christkindlmarket patrons band together in holiday rage.
We have to agree with the angry fan side here. (Unless the vessel gives us considerably more wine, which we're guessing is not the case.) We love the boot shape in all its cheery corny holiday glory! And we love the usual holiday greeting card design scheme. Who is this woman watching over our city in the new mug? She looks kinda like Nicki Minaj with over-processed hair wearing disco era bell sleeves. Sure, the mug wasn't boot shape before 2005, but if you switch over to something awesome, why change it back?
If you are heading down to Christkindlmarket, perhaps bring a boot mug from Christkindlmarket past to dump your spiced wine in and fulfill your boot drinking needs? It's a sad day for Chicago Christmas indeed.
