The town of Washington, Ill. was among the hardest hit from Sunday’s tornadoes and severe weather. As the days pass more video footage is popping up showing the brute force of the EF-4 class tornado.
The first video below from Washington resident Marc Wells shows him and daughter Josie taking shelter in their basement as the tornado cuts a swath near their home. Wells and his daughter were not injured, for which Wells wrote in the description they were “very thankful.” As you can hear in the video, neither Wells nor his daughter was sure they would get through unscathed. Josie can be heard asking, “Is this gonna save us?” Wells answers, “I hope so, buddy.”
After the tornado passes Wells and his daughter can be heard expressing shock at the destruction in the storm’s wake. “The neighbors’ houses are all gone,” Wells exclaims.

The second video uploaded to Youtube shows another Illinois tornado. The uploader titled the video as being the same tornado in Washington but commenters say the mentions of Grundy County near the end of the video place this tornado in the Coal City and Diamond, Ill. area.
