Nearly 240 Cars Towed As City Winter Overnight Parking Ban Begins

While you were sleeping -- and that's not a figure of speech, seeing as the city's ban began Sunday morning at 3 a.m. -- almost 240 cars were towed as Chicago's winter parking ban took effect.
The Sun-Times reported that 239 vehicles had been "hauled away on the first day," which was less than last year's total of 300, but more than 2011's first-night haul of 215 towed vehicles.
Those car owners are going to feel that in their pocketbooks: As the Tribune writes, owners face "towing fee of at least $150, plus $20 a day storage fee, in addition to a $60 ticket." And you thought paying the privatized parking meters was bad. But you have plenty of time to get used to it: As DNAinfo writes: "The prohibition on parking on 107 miles of arterial streets... runs till 7 a.m. daily from Dec. 1-April 1."
According to the City of Chicago news release, "Vehicles in violation of the ban will be towed to Pounds 2 (10301 South Doty Avenue) or 6 (701 North Sacramento)." Here is a list of streets included in the winter overnight parking ban, and a map as well.
