Since the announcement that Dominick’s would be leaving the Chicago market and all stores would be closing at the end of this year, many people have wondered when the discount on items would begin. Well according to DNAinfo Chicago, it already has.

Beginning last Friday, discounts were made on items such as household goods, school supplies, personal hygiene items and beauty products. Items were priced 50 percent off. DNAinfo Chicago spoke to a manager at the Dominick’s in Ukrainian Village who stated that the store had brought in 10 to 15 percent more staff to help handle the crowds during their three-week closing sale. The sales continue this week with all food and grocery items half off starting this Friday and liquor reduced to 50 percent off on Dec. 20.

DNAinfo Chicago did a wonderful job speaking to some of the local employees about the current feelings during the closures and what their futures will hold. The Ukrainian Village location is one of the Dominick’s purchased by Mariano’s and several employees hope to reapply for their jobs once Mariano’s takes over the location. We hope the transition is smooth and utilizes current workers, since losing your job around the holidays makes a tough situation even tougher.

If you plan on grabbing some of the discounted goods, might we suggest some sense of moderation? Hopefully those that are struggling to afford groceries will be able to take advantage of the discounts and help make costly holiday expenses a little easier this year. DNAinfo reported people were lining up as early as 6 a.m. last Friday to take advantage of deals. We’re guessing the day they discount booze will be an absolute madhouse, so head out early if you plan on stocking up.
