Everyone knows about Chicago Italian beef palaces such as Al's, Johnnie's and Mr. Beef but Serious Eats Chicago editor Nick Kindelsperger dug past the surface to find 10 Italian beef joints that don't get the love they deserve either because of location or... let's face it, location.

The list is dominated by delis and shops on the West and Northwest sides and northwest and southwest suburbs. Kindelsperger, in another wrinkle, focused on Italian delis that slice hunks of beef to order. The head of the class on the list goes to Bari on Grand Avenue and SE Chicago's accompanying slideshow will make you hungry.
