Scores Of People Scalded Attempting The Boiling Water Into Snow 'Trick'

We had a feeling it was only a matter of time until this happened. While the "throwing boiling water in the air and turning it into snow" trick was all the rage in Chicago Monday and Tuesday, some didn’t fare so well with their scientific endeavors. The Los Angeles Times kept notes and counted at least 50 people on social media who reported burning themselves or friends after trying the trick, as well as several reports of people going to the hospital for treatment of burns. They also noted the victims weren’t only curious adults, but some children. St. Louis Children’s Hospital reported Tuesday afternoon two children received treatment for burns after attempting the trick. Letting your children handle boiling water in a potentially dangerous environment? Someone is vying for parent of the year award!
The Times has some of the best tweets and photos posted from the mishaps around the nation. Our favorite is the guy soothing his arm under a kitchen faucet, empty Natty Light boxes papering the wall behind him. Moments later he is giving a thumbs up in front of a tower of empty cheap beer boxes, grinning while holding a can of Budweiser. We’re gonna venture it’s a safe bet to assume alcohol was involved in their boiling water to snow attempt. The article also gives a shout out to our buddy Micah (also now known as Gawker’s burnt penis man), who had one of our favorite Chiberia videos we showcased earlier this week.
The lesson to take away from all of this, is before trying anything at home, make sure you do your research. And always remember to throw any liquids with the wind, not against it.
