World Star Hip-Hop has a 40-minute documentary about violence in Chicago and its relationship to hip-hop. While its content may be old news to most Chicagoans -- indeed, the video begins by contextualizing the city's rise in violence in 2012 the same way as "This American Life" did when it visited Harper High School -- the film is still a compelling, intense watch full of beautiful imagery of Chicago.
The film, titled, "The Field: Chicago (A Profile Of The City's Hottest Artists, The Violence That Surrounds Them And The Hope Music Brings To Their Lives)," can be watched below:
One of the film's interviewees, Rhymefest, spoke to WGCI about the doc, and that segment is worth a listen.
