Lakeview Polar Bear Club Cancels Polar Plunge Due To Weather

Looks like prospective Polar Plungers may have to wait until next year, in classic Chicago fashion. The Lakeview Polar Bear Club wrote in a news release that Saturday's Polar Plunge was called off because of inclement weather. Because people who willingly jump into freezing water wearing summer bathing suits have their limits.

"Unfortunately, due the recent weather and the large amount of ice buildup at Oak Street Beach, the Lakeview Polar Bear Club has had to cancel today's Polar Plunge," Grant Boyadjian, LPBC media and fundraising chair, wrote in a news release.

The LPBC website has a much more entertaining way of announcing the cancellation.

"It is with disgust for Old Man Winter & Mother Nature that [we] must inform everyone that
sadly we are cancelling the 13th Annual LPBC Polar Plunge," the website reads. "Even our grandparents wouldn't walk to school (uphill both ways) in this weather."

The good news is that the charity fundraiser and afterparty the club is hosting at Fatpour is still on. It will be there until 4 p.m. Saturday.

"It is currently uncertain if we will reschedule or simply wait until next year," Boyadjian wrote.

At least it isn't too cold yet for actual polar bears.
