Chicagoist is proud to premiere a new live performance video from The Brothers Star Race, a local quintet featuring Rebecca Brown, who you may remember from the Jack Black-starring, Richard Linklater-directed film School of Rock, on bass. The song they perform is called "Beautiful."

As in the movie, Brown plays bass in StarRace. She also holds down the high harmonies in the group in the same way that Mike Mills did in R.E.M. The song "Beautiful," the intimate performance video for which was directed by Chris Hershman of fellow Chicago group Tall Walker, shows The Brothers Star Race honing in on a soulful, contemporary sound much like that of defunct up-and-comers Kids These Days.

The emotions in the track are heavy, but the music is compact and melodic, so there's never any egregious self-indulgence as a result. The quintet exude confidence, impressive given their presumed youth.

Check out "Beautiful" below [watch for the gif-worthy look Brown gives the camera before the clip fades]:

If you want to see the band live, you can check them out at Heritage Bikes on Jan. 30th.

In other Brown news, she recently participated in a School reunion. Watch it and be delighted:
