Get ready for another day of having the children at home, parents. Chicago Public Schools announced a few moments ago that classes would be canceled Tuesday due to the cold weather and high winds. CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett, in a statement, said schools will "remain closed until we are confident that students can return to school safely."
The statement also read that CPS is working with other city agencies to ensure schools will be prepared for students and staff once the call to return to class is made. The school district will monitor weather conditions (i.e. watch Skilling Central) and make a determination by noon Tuesday on whether class will resume Wednesday.
CPS is using robo-calls, email and social media to alert parents of Tuesday's closing. Parents looking for more information can call 773-553-1000 or visit the CPS website. After school activities and sporting events are also canceled but Chicago Park District facilities will be open during normal operating hours for parents seeking alternate youth programs and services.
