Video: Watch John Belushi In A Public Television Pilot In 1973

John Belushi would have been 65 Jan. 24 and his legacy as a comedic actor still looms large over Chicago improv and theater. To commemorate Belushi's birthday, Chicago Film Archives released a snippet of Belushi on a proposed public television program called Earth Keeping that never came to pass.

Earth Keeping is another gem of CFA's DeWitt Beall collection. (Chicagoist featured Beall's A Place to Live one year ago today as a "Weekend Theater" selection.)

What's interesting here is that you can see Belushi beginning to discover his own style. While it isn't as manic as his SNL heyday, the introduction of the fish is a nice touch and hints at what was to come.
