Music Video Of The Day: Frank Ocean 'Thinkin Bout You'

By Lisa White in Arts & Entertainment on Feb 18, 2014 11:30PM

February is Black History Month and while there are numerous events to celebrate in Chicago, we are going to take a daily moment to recognize some of our favorite exceptional black artists in music with our 'Music Video Of The Day' column this month.

Frank Ocean is becoming one of the more thoughtful and creative writers in modern hip hop, crafting earnest and sometimes explicit emotions fine-tuned for consumption. His writing is honest and raw, he works with some of the best in his field (Andre 3000 on "Pink Matter" is one of our personal favorites) and he has one of the smoothest voices in the game. We saw him play the Metro the day before his 2012 Lollapalooza set, and his voice is as clear and reaches all the high notes live as it does recorded. Everything he does, from videos to live performance, is high art that Ocean treats with the upmost respect, originality and thought.

Since Chicago saw a little sunshine and higher temperatures, we've got summer music on the brain. Ocean's breezy melodies always makes us crave summer sun shining down on our bare skin.

Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact us at tips@chicagoist.com.
