Music Video Of The Day: Buddy Guy 'Damn Right, I've Got The Blues'

February is Black History Month and while there are numerous events to celebrate in Chicago, we are going to take a daily moment to recognize some of our favorite exceptional black artists in music with our 'Music Video Of The Day' column this month.
The world would be minus a lot of amazing musicians if one man had never picked up a guitar and started singing the blues. The influence Buddy Guy has made on blues and rock music is historical, his style of playing and his white hot electric form of blues influenced the likes of Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Stevie Ray Vaughan, who famously declared that without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan. He constantly is high up in the ranks on "best guitarist of all time" lists and has the awards and history to prove it.
Born in Louisiana, after moving to Chicago in 1957 he fell under the spell of Muddy Waters and so began is career as being one of the biggest ambassadors of Chicago blues. Guy even has his own club in the South Loop, where he sets up shop annually to perform a residency. Even at his level, he just wants to play the blues in some dark club. Below is a more stripped down version of his song "Damn Right, I've Got the Blues" from his Guitar Center Sessions a few years ago.
Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact us at tips@chicagoist.com.
