February is Black History Month and while there are numerous events to celebrate in Chicago, we are going to take a daily moment to recognize some of our favorite exceptional black artists in music with our 'Music Video Of The Day' column this month.
TLC was a vocal part of the 90s female empowered slice of hip hop that ended up influencing many strong minded confident women. Even though this writer was listening to some stuff that she probably shouldn't have been listening to at her age, the general message of standing up for yourself and what you want always was a constant with TLC, and that was a great message flowing into the ears of young girls around the world. By the end of the 90s, TLC was considered one of the most successful artists of the past ten years and had racked up numerous awards, multi-platinum albums and a bevy of top 10 hits.
TLC was an important group for many and today we take a look at their adorably dated first single "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," a video that included their awesome shout out to encourage folks to practice safe sex.
Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact us at tips@chicagoist.com.
