Local Dancers Competed In Photo Challenge To See Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

New York City’s Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is in town, and three lucky winners got to go to last night's show for free. The Auditorium Theatre held a photo contest for dancers to submit a photo of themselves dancing in an iconic Chicago location, and our local dancers represented with some beautiful shots. Chosen by popular vote, Lana Nielsen, Kelly Kakaley and Laike Newby walked away with the prize, showing off their flexibility in places as breathtaking as Cloud Gate and as mundane as a city parking meter.

The Alvin Ailey residency will feature a few different programs over it’s 10-day stay in Chicago, each featuring a classic African=American spiritual piece from Ailey himself, titled Revelations. Other choreographers works will include Wayne McGregor’s Chroma, Bill T. Jones’s D-Man in the Waters (Part 1), both company premieres, and Chicago premieres Four Corners from Ronald K Brown and Aszure Barton’s LIFT.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will be at The Auditorium Theatre through March 9th. Check their website for performance dates and times. Tickets are still available for $32 - $92.
