Music Video Of The Day: Buckwheat Zydeco 'Hey Ma Petit Fille I'm Going Now'

By Lisa White in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 4, 2014 11:30PM

We suggested some good eats earlier today for your Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday celebrations. Now we're going to offer up a good soundtrack to go along. If you plan on downing a few bowls of jambalaya tonight, make sure to throw some zydeco music on your stereo. Although we are partial to Clifton Chenier, videos of him are scarce. So we turn to another famous contemporary zydeco musician who actually worked with Chenier earlier in his career, Stanley Dural, better known as Buckwheat Zydeco.

Zydeco music was born out of the French Creole culture in Louisiana and mixes elements of Cajun music and blues. It's the type of music you get up and dance to or grab some sort of rhythm instrument and join along. Enjoy a classic performance from Buckwheat Zydeco at the Montreux Jazz Festival below.

Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact us at tips@chicagoist.com.
