Don't Call It A Comeback: Mr. Russia At Beat Kitchen Tonight

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 12, 2014 7:00PM

2014_03_mr_russia.jpg While frontman Ivan Russia has kept busy with a number of musical projects, most recently Sheriff Scabs, his namesake band Mr. Russia has been largely dormant since keyboard player Linday Gavin moved to L.A. The band is about to lose another member as bass player Ryan Butter Russia is also leaving Chicago, so to celebrate / see him off the crew is getting together for their first show in two years at Beat Kitchen tonight.

Since this basically leaves Ivan as the last standing Russia, this could also very well be the band's last show. Then again, since the band is built on Ivan's name who's to say he won't just go and recruit a new cast of émigrés to travel to his Russia? We're hoping the answer is yes. While Ivan Russia's restless musical adventures takes him to all corners of pop exploration, we've always had a soft spot for the straightforward melodies and primal thrust of Mr. Russia.

Whether we'll ever see the band play again is a question for the future, but in honor of Mr. Russia cutting more ties to their past, let's take in this vintage video of the band's appearance on Chic-A-Go-Go in 2009.
