Spencer’s Jolly Posh Set To Expand

By Melissa Wiley in Food on Mar 21, 2014 2:20PM

We’ve already waxed Anglophilic about how Jolly Posh really does bring the jolly. Come May, it will bring even more. The British and Irish foods purveyor is set to expand from its current location at 1405 W. Irving Park Road to the former Frida's space at 3755 N. Southport Ave. For those of you fond as we are of sneaking a bacon rasher into the Music Box during a Hitchcock matinee, this will make life even more convenient.

The current cafĂ©, which opened in 2012 and serves a full and delightful afternoon tea, seats a dozen souls and itself marks an expansion from Nicholas Spencer’s former trade serving homemade meats exclusively at farmers' markets and specialty grocery stores. Jolly Posh 2.0 will accommodate 30 or more customers, with an added outdoor patio. The menu will also grow with the space, including bubble and squeak and cottage pie, while additional shelves will tower with yet more Anglo oddments.

Eleanor Bryan, Spencer’s marketing manager, told DNAinfo that SJP’s new incarnation will function more as a restaurant than its current iteration, with four times the menu options courtesy of extensive recipe development, likely selling fresh versions of items presently sold solely from the freezer section. Spencer and crew are also applying for a liquor license, and plans for more festive events, such as a Wimbledon-themed tea, are also in the works to maximize the new floor space.

Spencer’s Jolly Posh is currently located at 1405 W. Irving Park Road.
