When Munster, Ind., brewery Three Floyds announced they were looking to add a distillery and double the size of their brewing operations, there was much excitement. After all, what could be better than more Three Floyds, especially for an ever-increasing demand for craft beer?
Dark Lord Whiskey, that's what.
DNAInfo's Mark Konkol spoke to Nick Floyd, who lives in Chicago's Ukrainian Village and describes himself as a "wizard-metal CEO," about the details of the planned expansion, including a five-story distillery and the expanded brewery, which will reportedly triple Three Floyds' production.
Now here's where mouths can start salivating:
Three Floyds master brewer Chris Boggess and his crew already plan to — get this — distil Dark Lord into a unique high-quality spirit that appeals to both beer and whiskey drinkers."Beer always will be my thing, and I can always grow in the brewery creatively," Boggess said. "But distilling is just different. It's the alchemy, the science of it. It's just cool."
And, following Three Floyds' motto, "It's not normal," the brewery's "wizard CEO" plans on making a version of Maotai — a rare Chinese spirit that sells for more than $300 a bottle.
Be still Dark Lord Fans' cold, black hearts.
