17 Shot, Three Killed, Across Chicago Within Seven-Hour Timeframe

In less than a full day's work amount of time, 17 people were shot, and three people were killed, across Chicago's West, South, and Southwest sides.

The Sun-Times reported the most recent fatal shooting happened in Chicago's Austin neighborhood early Saturday morning, while another fatal shooting took place in the Back of The Yards neighborhood Friday afternoon, according to DNAInfo.

In the Back of the Yards shooting, a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were shot inside an apartment kitchen. The woman, who was shot in the leg, survived, while the man did not.

The victim in the Austin shooting was a 17-year-old boy. The third fatal shooting took place Friday evening in Pullman, when a woman sitting in her car was shot.

The shootings are under investigation, but no one is in custody. DNAInfo reports that, from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning, a total of 23 people were shot. The Tribune, however, reports 26 people shot and four killed.

The Sun-Times also reports that a Friday afternoon shooting involved an off-duty police officer shot and killed an elderly man after the man's wife and officer's wife were arguing.

Shockingly, the account of the shooting as given by the victim's family and neighbors differs wildly from the Chicago Police Department's version of events.

Sadly, this is shaping up to be another typical Chicago weekend,
