Chicago's Memorial Day Weekend Starts With Absolutely No Shooting Victims

Though there were certainly reports of shots fired, the last recorded murder was Thursday evening, and police told ABC 7 Chicago no one had been shot in Chicago since late Friday evening.

Last weekend, 19 people were shot, and two people were killed, in shootings across Chicago beginning Friday night and continuing through the following Sunday morning. 23 people have been shot and killed, and 164 people wounded, in shootings for May 2014 so far.
So while celebrating may not be in order, this is undoubtedly good news. Yesterday, Mayor Emanuel and many others participated in the anti-violence rally called "A Summer of Faith and Action."

According to the Sun-Times, not everyone was impressed, as one heckler, N’Dana Carter, said, "The mayor has a problem in the black community. He is closing our mental health centers and schools.”
