Our Worst Tasting Products From The Sweets & Snacks Expo

This booth offered up a liquid chocolate shot, suggesting it as a great addition to coffee or other beverages. Only after we took a sip did they add the bonus fact the product was sugar free! Which we could immediately tell from the chemical taste coating our tongue. It took multiple other pieces of candy and a glass of water to rid ourselves of the metallic and artificial aftertaste. Avoid at all costs and just melt some good chocolate if you want liquid form.

Jelly Belly has a new line of cocktail flavored beans including a beer flavor they were heavily pushing at the Expo. At first bite it isn't bad, a light wheat beer, but suddenly a sugary chemical taste takes over your tongue. We found ourselves quickly rushing to spit out the half chewed Jelly Belly, pining instead for our classic favorites like peach and juicy pear. Sometimes classic is better than new.

If we're eating candy, we usually aren't too concerned at the moment about vitamins and energy. We do have to give a nod to Supercandy, because their sugar dusted 'bean' was actually pretty tasty. We didn't feel any health benefits after eating them but they were nice enough. So we had high hopes for the other flavors. The 'gummy' was ok but left a bit of a bitter aftertaste. But the 'mel' was one of the worst things we put in our mouth from the Expo. Chalky,weird and all around horrible.

We love sour candy, once eating so many Warheads in high school that our tongue went a bit numb. And we'll always have a soft spot for Sour Patch Kids. Sour Jacks should leave it to the pros. The gummy candy was too hard, coming off a bit stale. The red and orange flavors were standard but the yellow had us running for the trashcan again. It was like taking a bite of lemon Pledge flavored candy, something we hope to not do again anytime soon.

Not surprisingly, meat snacks can either be delicious or go horribly wrong. Texture and flavor play a big part when it comes to these products. We've enjoyed some Jack Links products from gas stations on road adventures before so we had high hopes for their latest, Squatch, despite the unfortunate name. We wish this snack had stayed in the mythical creature realm instead of reality. There is something almost mushy and oily about the texture and it ended up leaving us feeling a bit queasy.
