Remember when Riot Fest announced its lineup and you had a hard time lifting your jaw off the ground at how loaded it looked?

Prepare for the letdown.

The A.V. Club announced its lineup for the A.V. Fest/Hideout Block Party Sept. 5-6 and looking at it one can’t help but make comparisons to the festivities happening a week later in Humboldt Park. It isn’t that the lineup is particularly lacking in starpower— okay, it is. But even compared to previous A.V. Fest or Hideout Block Party lineups this one is sort of “been there, done that.”

Death Cab for Cutie headlines. While we like the band’s albums, in a live setting Ben Gibbard and company can be sonic narcolepsy. We do like seeing The Dismemberment Plan, The War on Drugs (whose newest longplayer Lost in the Dream is a constant presence on our iTunes); and Mac DeMarco on the lineup. Then there’s the presence of The Funky Meters and Valerie June, which should give the festival a rough, rustic edge. Jon Langford makes his requisite appearance with Bad Luck Jonathan.

Early bird $55 festival passes are already sold out but $65 passes are still up for grabs online.
