Chicago has another shooting homicide on the books Wednesday as a woman was found shot to death on the Dan Ryan expressway between 55th and 59th Streets.
Jasmine Curry, 25, was driving her Dodge Caravan with two other passengers when the shooting occurred around 4 a.m. Police responding at the scene found Curry dead from a gunshot wound to the head. One female passenger was uninjured. The third passenger fled the scene and is being sought by authorities.
According to Curry’s father Pierre, she was a mother of five children ranging in age from 1 to 9, just found out she was pregnant with another child and was starting work at a new job today. Her death comes one year after he younger brother Pierce Curry was shot to death last August, four blocks from where Curry was shot. Police are treating the shooting as an isolated incident. Pierre Curry told the Tribune he believes the shooting was related to Pierce Curry’s murder.
"I really think -- my heart, my gut -- it was some gang-banging crap. I just know it," Pierre Curry said. “They got to get these fools. They ain't got the fool who shot my son last year, I hope they find the fool who shot my daughter today."
Curry’s cousin Iesha described her to the Sun-Times as “a sweet, outgoing person” who would “do anything for anybody.” Police are looking at surveillance video from the scene and interviewing witnesses to put together a timeline. A $1,000 reward is being offered to find Curry’s killer.
