It's News To Us: Chicago Prostitution Heat Map

Here’s a novel use of the Chicago Open Data Portal. A user on Reddit posted a heat map of where prostitution is most rampant in the city using publicly available incident report data from the Chicago Police Department.

The map shows hooking is thriving in both affluent and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, from Streeterville and River North to Englewood and Garfield Park. Here are the 10 areas where prostitution is getting busted the most.

• West Garfield Park, near Madison between Cicero and Kostner.
• East Garfield Park, near Madison between Kedzie and Damen.
• Streeterville, especially near Michigan Avenue and Ohio.
• River North, around Clark Street between Kinzie and Grand.
• Humboldt Park, around North Avenue near Grand and North Hamlin.
• Logan Square, around Armitage and Pulaski.
• North of Midway Airport, on Cicero between 47th Street and Archer.
• Washington Park, on Prairie Avenue between 47th and 57th streets.
• Brighton Park, along 47th Street between Kedzie and Western.
• Englewood/Gresham, along South Halsted between 71st and 76th streets.
