Ald. Rey Colon Arrested For DUI

By Chuck Sudo in News on Jul 28, 2014 7:30PM

This news slipped under the proverbial radar over the weekend. Ald. Rey Colon (35th) was charged with DUI and a host of other traffic violations Friday.

Colon was traveling westbound on the Eisenhower expressway around 1 a.m. Friday when he was stopped by police near Homan Avenue around, after being noticed drifting across the lanes as he attempted to exit. He was given a field sobriety tests and arrested. In addition to DUI, Colon was charged with driving on an expired license, improper lane use and failure to signal, according to Police Department spokeswoman Monique Bond.

This is not the first time Colon has been charged with DUI or driving on a suspended license. He was convicted of DUI in 1995. When asked about last Friday’s arrest, Colon would not offer details.

“I am cooperating, I have every confidence in the legal system that justice will be served in this matter, and I really want to just focus on just serving my constituents and representing my ward and it’s neighborhoods and not let this be a distraction. But it’s not something I’m at liberty to talk in detail about.”

Colon is due in court on the charges Aug. 15.
