Cubs 3, Colorado 1
Jake Arrieta had been the Cubs most consistent starter since Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel were shipped to Oakland last month. Arrieta has taken no-hitters deep in recent starts. Thursday at Wrigley Field Arrieta flirted with a no-hitter through 4-2/3 innings. He eventually allowed only three hits in seven innings and struck out seven in that span. Arrieta received offensive support with RBIs from Starlin Castro, Justin Ruggiano and Luis Valbuena as the North Siders won their first home series since June.

White Sox 7, Detroit 4
Jose Abreu extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a 3-for-3 day at the plate and Moises Sierra was 4-for-5 with an RBI as the Sox pulled away in the late innings to win this series at Comerica Park. The Sox made no waves as the trade deadline approached but the Tigers acquired pitcher David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for outfielder Austin Jackson and pitcher Drew Smyly. The Sox scored the go-ahead run when Detroit reliever Joakim Sora hit Paul Konerko with a pitch in the seventh inning.
