Soak Up Some Beer And BBQ Tomorrow In Old Irving Park

2014_8_1BeerBBQ.jpg Two of the finest forms of food and beverage to ever go hand-in-hand come together this weekend for a good cause in Old Irving Park. Tomorrow from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the St. Viator School Parking Lot, ten cooks and local craft brewers are teaming up to see if their slow and low offerings will come out on top. Each team will present a special BBQ pork and beer pairings and additional beer style from each brewery. The crowd will be the judges, casting their votes for best BBQ pork, beer and best pairing of the two. No matter who is crowned the winner, at the end of the day all the proceeds will go back into the community to benefit the St. Viator Parish and School.

• PolBQ: Paul Koslowski with Wil Turner of Revolution Brewing
• TennesseeWhiskyQ: Warren Stephens with Hayley Shine of Rock Bottom Chicago
• ArenaFor45BQ: John Arena with Brant Dubovick of Dryhop Brewers
• ChicagoWinterQ: Dan Winter with Matt Gallagher of Half Acre Beer Company
• Smokin’ Mojo: Dan Mojonnier with Kevin Cary of Begyle Brewing
• HazyQ: Brian Hayes with Sean Mahoney and Ike Orcutt of BuckleDown Brewing
• Smoke-A-Rauter: John Neurauter with Bart Sakowski of Finch’s Beer Co.
• StViatorBBQ: Jaime Guerrero with Clint Bautz of Lake Effect Brewing Company
• Porknado: Mike Sanders with John Barley of Solemn Oath Brewery

The cost to indulge in lots of beer and pork is $60 and that includes BBQ samples from all 10 teams along with the beer pairings for each, additional beer offerings and a commemorative glass.

As an added bonus to the competition, the winner of the day will face off against the adorable tortilla making powerhouse Grandma Lola Cantu, the grandmother of Moto chef and owner Homaro Cantu, and Trevor Rose-Hamblin at their new brewery in Old Irving Park. The soon-to-be-named brewery, owned by Cantu, Rose-Hamblin and Jeff Linnemeyer, is set to open in early 2015.

The Old Irving Park Beer & BBQ Challenge is Saturday Aug. 2 from 2 to 5 p.m. at St. Viator School Parking Lot, located at 3644 N. Kedvale Ave. Tickets are $60 and available online.
