Local filmmakers Jarrell and Jerome Lucas are drumming up support for their forthcoming documentary Bucket. The feature length project follows the lives of several of Chicago’s “Bucket Boys,” the teen street performers whose bucket and drumstick sounds are synonymous with the rhythm of the city.

The documentary aims to tell the story of the performers behind the percussion, many of whom face poverty and homelessness or support themselves and their families by “beating,” as they term their performances.

“On the South Side everything’s about violence, so we wanted to send something positive out,” Jarrell Lucas told WCIU.

The Kickstarter campaign, which runs through this Tuesday, hopes to raise $25,000 to cover equipment and post-production costs. Shooting of the film is already in progress and, according to the Tribune, is about 80 percent complete.
