2014_8_20_swanlakesmall.jpg Occasionally we’re invited to the Joffrey Tower to preview an upcoming performance, but now you can get that same glimpse behind the scenes! Between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, Joffrey Ballet will be live-streaming rehearsals of Christopher Wheeldon’s re-imagined Swan Lake, which opens with its Chicago premiere on Oct. 15.

Sometimes watching professional dancers in rehearsal can be more exhilarating than seeing the final product onstage. You’re right up close and can see just how hard they are working, both mentally and physically. You’ll also get to witness the choreographer’s process—yes, Wheeldon will be in the studio working with the dancers—and get an interesting peek at the detail that goes into creating an entire full-length production.

Artistic Director Ashley Wheater will be your live stream host and conducting interviews with Wheeldon as well as some of the lead dancers between rehearsals (even the pros gotta take a break).

Catch the live stream on the Joffrey’s YouTube channel on Thursday, August 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Swan Lake runs Oct. 15-26 at the Auditorium Theatre (50 E. Congress). Tickets for the performances are $32-$155.
