A South Shore man was charged with domestic battery after an incident early Monday where he allegedly beat his girlfriend, struck her 7-year-old son when he tried to intervene, and tossed the woman’s 8-month-old baby girl out the window of his car and ran over the baby.

Joseph Fults, 46, allegedly got into the fight with his 23-year-old girlfriend around 2:40 a.m. Monday morning in the car at 75th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. Both children suffered bruises and were treated and stabilized at University of Chicago Comer’s Children Hospital. Fults, who is not the father of either child, faces a misdemeanor count each of battery causing bodily harm and domestic battery, and is due in bond court Tuesday.
