Prepare Yourself! Mac & Cheese Fest Coming Oct. 4th

As summer turns into fall [or is supposed to, anyway], thoughts turn to classic comfort food. And there's no food more comforting or classic than the starchy, Midwestern Mac & Cheese. No matter how much you have, you always want more. Mac & Cheese enthusiasts can have their mouths water considerably come Saturday, Oct. 4th.

That's the date the first annual Mac & Cheese Fest comes to Chicago at the UIC Forum from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Mac & Cheese Fest website promises "tasting portions of Mac & Cheese from approximately 50 restaurants," some of whom include Bar Pastoral, Barn & Co., Chicago Q, Enolo, and many others, according to the RedEye.

Tickets are $50, which may seem steep, but that 50 bones includes "all you can taste" Mac & Cheese plus 5 drink tickets for beer, wine and spirits. Tickets are available only through Ticketmaster [argh!] and part of the proceeds for the day's events go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana. Head's-up: Mac & Cheese Fest says they "cannot guarantee that gluten-free or vegan options will be available." But otherwise? Go nuts.

UIC Forum is located at 725 W. Roosevelt Rd.
