Last Minute Plans: Tim And Eric And Dr. Steve Brule At The Athenaeum

Following the television debut of their new Adult Swim series Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories, a sort of David-Lynch-does-Tales-From-the-Crypt style anthology show, TV's Tim & Eric are set to take over the beautiful Athenaeum Theater in Lakeview for a two-night run, starting tonight.

The prurient, surrealist duo will be joined by Academy/Tony award nominee and fellow comedic genius John C. Reilly in character as Dr. Steve Brule, a recurring character on Tim & Eric's breakout Awesome Show, Great Job! who came into his own in the nightmarish public access spoof Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule, which wrapped its third season on Adult Swim earlier this year.

The Tim and Eric & Dr. Steve Brule road show reportedly offers up two distinct sets: the first half featuring Tim & Eric doing live bits between pre-taped segments a la Awesome Show, followed by the friendly-yet-depraved inanities and ill-advised health tips that fans of Dr. Brule have come to love. If this most recent tour is anything like past T&E road shows, behind-the-scenes looks and deleted clips from upcoming episodes of Bedtime Stories and Check It Out! are sure to crop up between live demonstrations of how exactly far one can go when committing to a dumb/repulsive idea. While this may not be the best entry into the world of Tim & Eric, it's a sure-thing religious experience for the myriad fans of the duo's lewdly dadaist comedy.

Tim and Eric & Dr. Steve Brule appear Tuesday, Sept. 23 and Wednesday, September 24 at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Ave. Tickets are unavailable through the Athenaeum's box office at post time, but they are available through StubHub.
