We really love encased meat here at Chicagoist, but we’re offering up a slow clap this morning to the happy couple who on a whim decided to get married at Hot Doug’s yesterday. This takes fandom of Hot Doug’s to a whole new level, which is hard to do when people are now waiting up to nine hours in line to pay their last respects before Hot Doug’s closes next week on Oct. 4.

Now we know how much our readers LOVE when we post about Hot Doug’s, but this story is just too sweet that we can’t help but relish it a little bit. Windy City Rollers Sarah Knipple and her domestic partner Carlie Lusk were planning to stop by Hot Doug’s on Wednesday before heading to the court to be legally married, reports DNAinfo Chicago. But thanks to the long lines, after waiting for an hour they decided why not just get married at Hot Doug’s instead? We have to agree here, a wedding with Doug Sohn as your witness sure beats your standard court affair. Plus planning an impromptu wedding gives you something to do while waiting in line!

After the couple decided to take the plunge, encased meat-style, a friend got on their phone and became legally ordained while another headed off to grab a wedding cake, champagne and balloons. Posts were made on social media and friends headed over to Doug’s to witness the ceremony inside. After waiting four hours, the couple finally reached the counter, gave their order to Doug and then headed to a table where they tied the knot.

According to DNAinfo Chicago, during 13 years of business, Hot Doug’s has seen proposals, engagements and Doug even walked another bride down the Hot Doug’s aisle. Best wishes and congratulations to the happy couple and good luck to those braving the lines, wedding or not, this last week at Hot Doug’s.
