Midday News Links: Flights In And Out Of O'Hare, Midway Slowly Resuming

  • Some flights are starting to arrive and depart from Chicago "at a reduced rate" after a fire set on purpose at an FAA radar center in Aurora this morning grounded over a thousand planes. The FAA stated at 10:30 a.m. that "flights that were already in the air destined to the Chicago area were allowed to continue at a reduced rate or proceed to an alternate destination." [Tribune]
  • In other flight news, a Boeing Dreamliner flying from Chicago to Poland made an emergency landing in Scotland this morning after crew members received an alert from the fire protection system in the baggage hold. [Tribune]
  • The McDonald's corporate headquarters in Oak Brook was evacuated earlier this morning while police and fire officials investigate a suspicious package. [CBS Chicago]
  • New details have emerged regarding a federal probe into the alleged misconduct by former U.S. Sen. Roland Burris. Burris is said to be a key government witness in the trial of C. Gregory Turner, a Chicagoan accused of illegally lobbying on behalf of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe. [Sun-Times]
