Pencil This In: Exploring Creative Nonfiction At Unabridged Bookstore

By Lisa White in Arts & Entertainment on Sep 26, 2014 5:30PM

2014_9_25PTI.jpg Two of our favorite local authors will be stopping by Unabridged Books tonight to read from their works, answer a short Q&A and sign books for fans. An evening of contemporary fiction includes authors Wendy Ortiz reading from her book Excavation: A Memoir, Dmitry Samarov reading from his most recent release Where To?: A Hack Memoir and Megan Stielstra, the author of Once I was Cool: Personal Essays.

We've long been fans of Samarov's work and sat down to talk with him last month about his latest publication. And after catching Stielstra perform at Story Club earlier in June we picked up her book and were smitten with her honest and raw way of creating an experience and the profundity in her work. Both books were released by the stellar local publisher Curbside Splendor, a major force bringing to light some of the powerful writers in Chicago and beyond.

Exploring Creative Nonfiction: An Evening with Megan Stielstra, Dmitry Samarov and Wendy Ortiz is tonight at Unabridged Bookstore (3251 N. Broadway) at 7 p.m. Wine and light refreshments will be provided.
