The White Sox couldn't spoil the Royals' playoff hopes, while the Cubs got off to a solid start to ultimately defeat the Brewers. Here's your morning box score:

Sox 1, Royals 3

Unlike with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Chicago White Sox couldn't make like a third party candidate and spoil the playoff hopes of the Kansas City Royals, who ultimately ruled, baby, ruled, over the South Siders for a 3-1 victory. The Royals held the Sox to six hits. Paul Konerko, set to retire Sunday, went 0-for-4. The Sox play the Royals again tonight.

Cubs 6, Brewers 4

The Cubs got off to a strong start, and, somewhat uncharacteristically, held their momentum to win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Javier Baez had a three-hit game, while Chris Coghlan started things off with a bang in the first inning, homering on the second pitch of the game. Two more runs in the third inning, and the Cubs held the lead for good. The next game of the series is tonight.
