On May 10, 2004, Margaret Lyons wrote the first post published on Chicagoist. Margaret would write only three posts that day, with Rachelle Bowden’s first post appearing the following day. Our posting goals were more humble back then.

Ten years and nearly 57,000 posts later, Chicagoist is still around, has grown in scope and, in my humble opinion, has earned its place among Chicago’s media landscape. What Margaret and Rachelle started (with the blessing and encouragement of Gothamist founders Jen Chung and Jake Dobkin) has blossomed under the care of talented and committed writers and editors, all of us passionate and curious about this city we call home.

Today also marks the fourth anniversary of my becoming editor-in-chief of Chicagoist, a period of time that has flown by and has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done. So this makes a perfect moment for us to announce a long-in-the-works anniversary party— it’s a few months past the actual anniversary last May, but the best things in life are worth the wait.

Emporium Arcade Bar Wicker Park ( 1366 N. Milwaukee Ave.) is the setting for this epic celebration, starting at 9 p.m. on Oct. 23. We’ll have music from Daniel Wade and DJ Matt Roan, a hosted bar courtesy of Pabst Blue Ribbon, food trucks (we’ll reveal the lineup at a later date) and a charity raffle to benefit 826CHI featuring prizes from some of our favorite local businesses.

This is a 21+ event and we recommend RSVPing here if you want to get you share of the free PBR. Thank you all for a hell of a 10-year run, and here’s hoping the future is just as exciting.
