A 13-year-old boy from Gary, Indiana, was shot nine times after reportedly laughing at a neighbor for being robbed Friday night. The boy, Kobe Jones, was found dead on his living room floor. Two people, both in their 30s and from the Chicago area, were arrested after fleeing the scene of the crime.

Who shot the boy remains unclear, Gary Police Lt. Thomas Pawlak told the Chicago Tribune that the neighbor who was robbed, along with his girlfriend, were arrested:

Pawlak said it was not yet clear who shot the boy but investigators have arrested a neighbor and that man's girlfriend after learning from bystanders that shortly before the shooting, the neighbor discovered his home had been burglarized, became upset, and went outside.

"The neighbor was yelling in anger about who was burglarizing his house and the 13-year-old (Kobe) was laughing at him and he got mad and there was some kind of confrontation," Pawlak said. "At that point, we don’t know what happened.''

Because charges have yet to be filed, the names of the accused have not been released. Family members told local media that Jones was "very funny," and liked to play sports.
