Pencil This In: WBEZ Election Night Live

By Lisa White in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 4, 2014 6:35PM

2014_11_4PTI.jpg If you'd rather spend election night celebrating (or commiserating) with company instead of alone in front of your own television, then head over to Haymarket Pub & Brewery to join WBEZ for their live election night party.

Things will kick off at 6 p.m. when the first round of beer is on Haymarket (a perfect way to soothe election result jitters) for the first 150 guests. Host Niala Boodhoo and Melba Lara will go live on-air with thoughts, commentary and analysis from a wide spectrum of politically involved Illinois individuals, including (all guests are tentative, it is a busy evening in their industry after all): Former Governor Jim Edgar, Congressman Danny Davis, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Congressman Bobby Rush, Senate President John Cullerton, State Senator Heather Steans, State Representative Ron Sandack and RTA Chairman and former State Senator Kirk Dillard. The evening will also include commentary from NPR’s David Schaper, Reboot Illinois’ Madeleine Doubek, Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg and former Sun-Times Springfield bureau chief Dave McKinney.

Between the political segments, those in the audience will get to enjoy off-air performances, music, games and much more from local comedians, artists and storytellers. Throughout the evening live transition music between segments will be provided by Andrew Edwards of Blue Police Box Music.

The event is free and WBEZ has a pretty tight capacity for the event, so do show up early if you want to guarantee yourself a seat (and that free beer we mentioned before).
