An early morning fire in Chicago's Northwest Side Hollywood Park neighborhood left 11 people injured and killed one person, a 10-year-old boy. Five of the 11 people injured were teenagers. The Sun-Times reports that, of the injured, two were in "serious-to-critical condition" while the other nine were in "fair-to-serious condition."
The cause of the extra-alarm apartment building fire, which began early Sunday morning, is unknown. Chicago Fire Department spokesman Joe Roccasalva told the Trib that the cause of the blaze is still under investigation and would not say "whether fire officials believe the fire was suspicious."
Neighbors told DNAinfo that the fire began on the third floor of the building located on North Kimball Avenue. NBC 5 reported that "several people jumped to safety and were helped by good Samaritans nearby."
