Today's Weather: Getting There

By Jon Graef in News on Nov 9, 2014 4:00PM

This morning's clouds and chill may feel like we're in store for a repeat of yesterday's forecast, but rest assured: we're due for a slow, steady climb to relative warmth, seasonable temperatures, and sunshine for the afternoon. All this before the polar vortex returns to ensure we all die in a frozen arctic hellscape. (Not really.)

Accuweather and Skilling are more or less on the same page with regard to today's forecast: both call for clouds in the morning, sunshine in the afternoon, and highs around 50 degrees. There may be showers tonight as well. Plan your afternoon activity today, because, polar vortex or no, the weather is about to head into a cold spell.

While Chicago will miss out on a Great Lakes snowstorm (huzzah?), we'll be getting the cold temperatures from the weather pattern of that storm. (Skilling has an interesting infographic about how Chicago in mid-November usually means a transition from fall to winter.) You should be fine Monday and Tuesday, but the mid-week will bring the drop into wintery temps. Bundle up. You're gonna need a bigger coat.
