Savor this morning warmth because in a few hours we'll be trading in windbreakers for layers. We've already exceeded today's forecast high of 50 degrees with an official reading of 55 degrees at O'Hare. We also have some mid-morning showers in the cards before the mercury begins its slide. The winds will shift to the west and start to gust up to 30 mph, bringing a long-awaited cold snap along for the ride. By the time you're ready for the evening rush you'll be heading home with temps in the mid-30s en route to overnight lows in the mid-20s.

Today's weather will set a cold table for the rest of the week as we have nothing but partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 20s through Friday. It isn't the end of the world; it's only autumn in Chicago.
