The Lightning entered the United Center riding a six-game winning streak and looked to add to that early Wednesday night thanks after Cedric Paquette scored in the first period while the Blackhawks could not solve goalie Ben Bishop. Things were better in the second period as Brad Richards scored his third goal of the season. Marcus Kruger made the score 2-1 Blackhawks in the third period with a goal, only to see Tampa Bay force overtime with a Nikita Kucherov.

The two teams skated a scoreless overtime and looked to be settling in for a long night between Bishop and Corey Crawford in the shootout before Patrick Kane scored the game winner.

Crawford ended the night with 25 saves and the Hawks outshot Tampa 39-27 to improve to 9-6-1 on the season.
