Music Video Of The Day: Shabazz Palaces '#CAKE'

By Lisa White in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 17, 2014 11:00PM

It's all good and fun that Julian Casablancas+The Voidz are stopping in town tomorrow night at The Vic. We've always enjoyed the Strokes, Casablancas' slightly droll, deadpan voice was a worthy soundtrack to the New York City sound of the early 2000s, and his latest endeavor have been enjoyable as well. But if you are catching their show, we implore you to head out early and catch Shabazz Palaces.

We were able to enjoy their trippy, chilled out blend of experimental hip hop at Pitchfork Music Festival in 2011, and since then they've just created even more funky tunes. Not surprising, since member Palaceer Lazaro, formerly known as Butterfly, was part of the groundbreaking alternative hip hop hybrid Digable Planets. Shabazz Palaces' music is rich and interesting, and their first single off their latest release, Lese Majesty, is full of thumping beats to enjoy below.

Grab a ticket here and check them out tomorrow night at The Vic.

Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact us at tips@chicagoist.com.
