What the light frost on the windows didn't tell us about the weather, the west wind that brought tears to our eyes during our morning dog walk made abundantly clear. It's cold out there, folks.

The number to watch today is 22 degrees. If the temperature doesn't rise to match or exceed that, it will break a 111-year-old record low high temperature for this date. All this bitter cold will be exacerbated by winds from the west gusting at up to 30,mph.

Things won't improve much as we head into the evening,as the clouds thicken and bring the possibility of more snow. By the time you start your morning commute Wednesday we could have an inch of snow on the ground. As far as the bitter cold is concerned, this is the worst of it, for now. By the time Saturday arrives temperatures should be back to normal for this time of year around here.
